Thursday, May 28th, 2009 by malashockdance

EverybodyKnows2

Malashock Dance’s newest work, Shadow of Mercy, is based on the music of internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen.

Cohen blends profound human imagery, soulful musicality, heartbreaking wit, and stunningly original poetry. Malashock Dance’s extraordinary dancers express Leonard Cohen’s lyrics and John Malashock’s stunning choreography in this luminous pairing of two brilliant talents.

Shadow of Mercy made its debut to rave reviews this Spring and now the choreography will be showcased for only one night this weekend.

There are a limited number of tickets and only a few are still available, so purchase your tickets now for only $25 ($14 for students) by clicking here.

We had the pleasure to host (in association with the LA JOLLA MUSIC SOCIETY) a MASTER CLASS WITH BALLET PRELJOCAJ this past week and many San Diego dancers took advantage of this great opportunity.  Ayo Jackson, company member with BALLET PRELJOCAJ, taught a wonderful class and the students (who ranged in age for 12 – 50) looked phenomenal.  An added bonus, Ayo Jackson was just beautiful to watch.

Dance as Exercise

Friday, May 1st, 2009 by malashockdance

dance-exerciseThe types of dance that are used for exercising today are as varied as the people who do them and there are many positive benefits and results for those who use dance as a form of exercise.

Whatever the type of dance that the exerciser chooses to do there are a lot of benefits. They include the benefits from aerobic exercises as well as those from stretching and toning. In addition to these obvious results, there is also a great deal of fun to be had with these alternative exercise methods. Of course if you are having fun you are more likely to finish with the exercise routine even if it hurts, is boring, or is difficult to motivate yourself into doing. In addition to the fun aspect, a great deal of confidence can come from dancing, and if you take a dance class it’s a great way to make friends.

No matter how one looks at it, it is a fun, exciting, and useful way to loose weight, get fit, stay in shape, and or tone yourself up. After all, nothing is better then having fun and exercising at the same time!
