Pants for Dancers

Thursday, April 9th, 2009 by malashockdance

dance-pantsYou can never have too many pair of dance pants. Having a variety of nice, stretchy, fitting dance pants is essential; and it’s important to find a pair that are fitted enough that you can really move in. There are a huge variety out there to choose from such as pants with a slight flare and capri pants just to name a couple. There are many websites you can find that offer dance pants at a relatively good price. One site we recommend checking out is Discount Dance Supply at www.discountdance.com.

Our Favorite Warm-Ups

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 by malashockdance

shrugs2_tnAs dancers we know the importance of warming up our bodies before we start practicing some of our rigorous routines.
Not only is it extremely important to do warm-up exercises, but it’s also important to wear some warm-up gear before beginning our exercises as well as after our bodies have warmed up. Throwing on a fitted shrug will keep your sholders warm and to ensure our leg muscles stay nice and warmed up a nice pair of leg warmers or fitted dance pants always do the trick.

Malashock Fashion Finds: New Capezio Bodisilk Line

Thursday, March 19th, 2009 by malashockdance

This week, we’re loving the new Capezio Bodisilk line. Although we’re usually too busy rehearsing to really pay attention to what we wear, the right clothes can help to improve our performance. In their newest line, Capezio has combined comfort and functionality in great contemporary designs. We find this line really showcases the lines of our body, which help us to be more accurate in rehearsing…which we’re doing a lot of right now!

Perhaps you might see some of these pieces pop up in our April show? Which reminds me…have you purchased your tickets yet? If not, click the “Purchase Tickets” button on the www.malashockdance.org homepage to get yours today!

Dancewear: Malashock Fashion Finds

Thursday, March 12th, 2009 by malashockdance

mediaThis week, we’ve been enjoying rehearsing for SHADOW OF MERCY while wearing Harmonie – organic knitwear for dancers.

We love Harmonie’s line of organic knitwear. Not only is it safer for the environment, but it feels great to wear. Some of our favorites are the organic knitwear Capri pants and the organic knitwear shrug with ¾ sleeves. Another organic favorite are the Dance Natural by Dasha legwarmers.

You can find these items and more eco-friendly, organic dancewear at www.dancedistributers.com/green.

Rehearsals have started for SHADOW OF MERCY!

Monday, February 23rd, 2009 by malashockdance

Though THE PEARL FISHERS is still running in Denver (with Matt and Nick still performing), rehearsals have started for SHADOW OF MERCY (The Leonard Cohen Project).

The first week is always the hardest.  Sore muscles, bruises, scrapes and the oinmysecretlife1 ccasional bump on the head are common occurrences.  Yet considering all that, John has been able to make tremendous choreographic progress during this last week.

IN MY SECRET LIFE, a duet for me and Trystan Loucado, is almost finished and has some very interesting and risky partnering.  Lucky for me, Trystan is one strong partner.  He must be eating his Wheaties!

Great progress has also been made on EVERYBODY KNOWS as well, a duet for me and Christine Marshall. Though, I must admit, and I think I can speak for Christine as well, it is one exhausting piece.  I’m sure our stamina will increase as we run the work, but for right now, this is intense aerobic activity!

John has finished WAITING FOR THE MIRACLE (though it still needs to be cleaned and fine-tuned), a quartet for Bradley Lundberg, Lara Segura, Trystan Loucado and Bernadette Torres.  Again, John has devised some provocative partnering and some very interesting choreographic passages.

All in all, a pretty good week!  The one thing I really appreciate about Malashock Dance rehearsals is that, even though we work our butts off, we always have time for good guffaw or two…or seven.  We laugh a lot!

Things get a little bit more complicated next week when Nick and Matt return from Denver and Heidi flies in from Washington, DC to start rehearsals.  Though, it will be nice to have a full company in the studio again.  I’m looking forward to that.

Tickets for SHADOW OF MERCY will go on sale this week! Be sure to check out the website for updates at www.malashockdance.org .
