Malashock Dance tours to the Midwest from March 30 – April 2, 2010

Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE)
Dunham Hall Theater, April 1st at 7:30 pm

Malashock Dance is presented as part of SIUE’s Arts & Issues series.  This concert will feature choreography by Artistic Director John Malashock and Associate Artistic Director Michael Mizerany.  Michael & John will also teach master classes at SIUE and Lindenwood College.

January 19, 2010 – San Diego; Malashock Dance will travel to Edwardsville, Illinois (just outside of St. Louis) in March/April and will be presented as part of SIUE’s Arts & Issues series.  The concert will offer works that are both physically challenging and emotionally arousing.  A few of the highlights will be excerpts from John Malashock’s critically-acclaimed work, Shadow of Mercy, the male duet from Malashock’s After Dust, as well Michael Mizerany’s Wayward Glances, an audience favorite.

Holiday Whirl Takes on New Meaning at Dance Place San Diego

Lively Activities featured at Free Day of Dance

San Diego, CA, November 9, 2009—The three resident dance companies at Dance Place San Diego,  located at NTC Promenade at Liberty Station, have a holiday gift for the entire community:  a Free Day of Dance on Saturday,  Dec. 26 beginning at 9 a.m. Malashock Dance, Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater and San Diego Ballet invite the public into their studios for free classes that last throughout the day.  This is the fourth year these companies have presented Free Day of Dance, an opportunity to sample the state-of-the-art facilities that are part of this growing art and culture district and learn more about what each company has to offer throughout the year. Classes for all ages and levels. There is even one for ages 3-6!   Classes include stretch, ballet, jazz, tango, modern and hip hop.

Malashock Dance performs world premiere of Surface Tension Oct. 10-11 at the Lyceum Theatre

Fall show features the first Malashock Dance premiere of choreography from Associate Artistic Director and Horton Award winner, Michael Mizerany

Sep. 2, 2009 – San Diego; Malashock’s fall performance, Surface Tension, holds true to the company’s motto of “putting emotion into motion.” Audiences will be enchanted by a series of short pieces that are both physically challenging and emotionally arousing. The debut of the fall show will consist of three pieces, After Dust (a world premiere choreographed by John Malashock), Apologies from the Lower Deck (choreographed by John Malashock) and Wayward Glances (world premiere choreographed by Michael Mizerany).

Paloma Patterson Named Executive Director of Malashock Dance

Paloma_July_2009_005_smallMalashock Dance is proud to announce the appointment of their very own Paloma Patterson as the new Executive Director, effective immediately. After vigorous months of highly competitive interviews conducted during a national search, it became clear to the Board of Directors that Patterson’s credentials, leadership skills, vast knowledge and passion for Malashock Dance made her the perfect candidate. The hiring of an Executive Director has being made possible by funding from the James Irvine Foundation, the Parker Foundation and Danah Fayman.

John Malashock Named to Dance/USA Board of Trustees

San Diego’s First Member on Board of National Professional Dance Organization

June XX, 2009- San Diego, CA; Recognized as one of San Diego’s most reputable dance companies, it is no surprise that the country’s major national dance service organization has asked Malashock Dance’s founder, John Malashock, to join their prominent Board of Trustees. Dance/USA has invited Malashock to serve a three year term beginning in July 2009. This honor will allow him to bring his knowledge of San Diego’s dance landscape to a diverse group of leaders nationwide whose goals are to address the creative, educational, and performance based needs of the dance world.

Malashock Dance Presents Shadow of Mercy April 17-19

San Diego’s Renowned Dance Company Brings Alive the Songs of Legendary Lyricist, Leonard Cohen, co-presented by the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture

February XX, 2009- San Diego, CA; Malashock Dance is proud to announce their first production created around the work of celebrated songwriter, Leonard Cohen, for the world premiere of Shadow of Mercy. The extraordinary technique and eloquent style of John Malashock’s choreography united with the poetic songs of Leonard Cohen will enthrall audiences for three consecutive evenings at the Garfield Theater at the Lawrence Family Jewish Center in La Jolla, April 17-19, 2009. This show is being co-presented by the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture.
